Another LEG down, one more to go

If you follow my Twitter profile, you already know I won another LEG yesterday in Phoenix during the 2008 Creedmoor Cup EIC (Excellence in Competition) match.

I was able to recover from a very poor standing score due to rattled nerves resulting in wobbly knees and a misjudged wind call in 300 yard rapid prone to secure a Bronze 6-point LEG.

I only shot an 89-1x in standing, but shrugged it off and shot a 100-4x sitting rapid for my very first clean sitting score ever in an official competition.

The 300 yard line I misjudged the wind and only put on 1-1/4 MOA when I should have put at least 2-1/4 MOA of windage adjustment. I ended up shooting a very tight group in the 9-ring at 9 o’clock.

Down 21 points walking to the 600 yard line, I didn’t let it get to me and I tried to shoot the best I could and was able to shoot a 192-3x in slow fire prone during a very variable speed and variable direction crosswind.

This 6-point LEG gives me a total of 24 (8 and 10-point LEGs prior), which puts me just one more LEG (any 6, 8, or 10-pointer) away from my Distinguished Rifleman badge.

As eager as I am to get back out another EIC match, I shot my maximum of three EIC matches this calendar year. So I have to wait until next January to shoot another EIC match. Unfortunately, the next one in California will probably be in April. Next year will be a great year when I go Distinguished.
