Camera backpack

posted in: Gear, Photography 2

A few weeks ago I took advantage of the eBay + MS Live.com 30% cashback deal and bought a Lowepro Vertex 300 AW.

I needed to replace my Burton 28L backpack because I wanted backpack that could carry two bodies with lenses attached, and the Burton didn’t have the capacity.

Now I have a backpack that can carry my 40D and XTi with lenses attached, my other lenses, 580 EX II flash, and still have room for more lenses.

Never got around to uploading photos of the backpack to my gallery until now.

Hi Jonathan! Sorry I missed you when you were here to see Doan today. Hey, this looks just like my backpack with just a few changes :). Is that a 24-105L that I see? 10-22? 70-200? I only have an xti, dreaming about a 5D MarkII. Unfortunately my backpack is too heavy for me, so I make Doan carry it! :) And lately the G9 seems like it’s getting the most use – especially for Doan’s site.

The lenses I currently have (as seen in the photo) are:

    17-40mm f/4L (general usage)
    70-200mm f/4L
    28mm f/1.8
    50mm f/1.4

I was using the 28mm f/1.8 for general use, and I had a 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 for ultra-wide use. But I kind of got into the habit of using the 10-22mm a lot as a general use, then found myself caught in a situation of not having enough focal length (and didn’t have another lens with me). So I decided to sell the 10-22mm and get the 17-40 f/4L which appears to be a pretty good lens for almost any situation. I was thinking about the 17-55 f/2.8 IS instead of the 17-40, but there are so many mixed feelings about the build quality on the 17-55 lens (IS motor has spotty performance).

As far as the XTi, I think it’s a great body. The *only* reason I bought a 40D a few months ago was because the price had dropped enough to where it was worth it to me to get one for the better auto-focus performance. And I like the idea of having two bodies to work with.

The 5D Mark II looks great specifications-wise. Not sure if you heard, but Canon is having issues with some of the sensors on the 5D MK IIs that were shipped. Something about black spots appearing in photos and weird vertical abberations. Hopefully they get that worked out soon.

The Canon G series is awesome. I still have my trusty Canon G2 that I bought back in 2002. I do need to get a new battery for it, though. Thankfully, SterlingTek makes high quality, low-cost batteries for Canon cameras.
